Silver-Medal Winner
2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition
Yeol Eum Son, Solo Recital

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.
Ruth Taylor Recital Hall at Trinity University

This summer, 30 pianists from around the globe competed in the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Six finalists vied for top honors in the Final Round and $1 million in prizes and tour engagements. Only three were awarded medals: one Silver Medalist and two Co-Gold Medalists. Two of the top medalists will perform in recital in San Antonio under the auspices of ARTS SA. Witness history in the making by reserving your seat for this intimate and powerful experience.

Silver-Medalist Yeol Eum Son has performed with the Israel, New York, Seoul, and Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestras, among other noted orchestras. A winner of the 2005 Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition, Ms. Son has performed at several international music festivals, including the Beethoven Easter Festival in Warsaw, the Rheingau Festival in Germany, and the Bowdoin Festival in the United States. She currently studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hanover, Germany, and has recorded an album of Chopin Etudes.

"She's got the fingers and the personality - and, at least here, the haut-est couture."
– Scott Cantrell, Dallas Morning News

"Her playing was both dynamic and personal.... that, together with her charming personality and demeanor, made for a wonderful evening for all in the audience, both adults and the many young emerging pianists that were present." – Texas A&M Performance Series
